Question 4.0 HO CPS Removal (in Distributor)

Still have the no start situation. I have all the plugs, wires, cap and rotor replaced.

How do I remove the CPS. I have searched far and wide and it says it should take 5 minutes to do, if you cant do this stay away from butterknives etc.

I removed the rotor and the cps is held on by a little hexagonal bolt and clip.

In the middle of the cps is a metal piece a disc with 2 8mm bolts on it. I took that off to gain better access to the cps and this miserable little bolt and clip to take it out. But cannot get at it.

Is there a way to take out the metal piece in the middle. I dont want to crank on it and break something. There is a small piece under the disc that spins but does not loosen.

Thanks in advance I am at my wits end with this thing and just want to get it running.

Are you sure the Cam Position Sensor (inside the distributor) is your problem or is that just the next logical part to try? I believe you have to pull the distributor shaft out of the housing to get that thing out. That's why I just went to the local scrapyard and bought a known good used distributor when my son's crapped.

That is the next logical part. I have no problem pulling it out. I figured that might be it.

Thanks I am a noob with these HO Distributors......

CPS if suggested by someone else would be crank pos sensor, pickup coil (cam pos sensor) in jeeps is usually not a culprit for a no start condition. You can get a repair manual and look for section to test these parts before you take them all apart or end up buying parts you really didn't need to begin with. Not to say that the pickup isn't bad, but just better to make sure first.
