Guys these are the measurements I got for the Dana 35 rear vs the Ford Explorer 31 spline 8.8. I thought it might be helpful.




Is there anyone who can add the Dana 44 info? I have never seen one and have not found the info yet.

I don't have those yet.(meaning D44 and 8.25. If anyone has those I will add it. Let me know guys.

I am also in the process of doing one of these post for the front as well.

The 8.25 and 44 from XJs are the same width as the 35. Shaft diameters are 8.25 27 spline 1.14 (smaller than a 35) 29 spline 1.25 and 44 30 spline 1.29. Ring gear sizes are 7.58" for the 35 and 8.5" for 44. I'm guessing you can figure out the other two.

just a correction. 8.25 29 spline axle is 1.21 and 30spline d44 is 1.31

My measurements were at the spline and came off Superior's website.

whats the advantage of the c8.8 or f8.8?

Guessing you meant chrco 8.25 and ford 8.8. 8.8 is a bit stronger but has a really low pinion. Both are c-clipped and decent axles.

a guy on pirate was running a 7.2:1 low range on 39.5 inch iroks with a stock 8.8 and he never broke it up til the day he swapped it out. he did manage to blow up his 231 transfercase a few times in the mean time

a BIT stronger is a little bit of an understatement.

They believe the 8.25 is comparable in strength to the 8.8.

What was this guy running this in? Weight plays a big part. Buggies can run lighter axles than full size rigs and you'll always have that guy who ran 38s on his D35 and never broke. Just curious what t-case or cases he ran to get a 7.2 low cause stock is 2.72 in the 231.

8.25 isnt much more than a dana 35.

some of these people make me wonder, im not saying i know all that but if you want real info you need it from people who are get their hands dirty then post what they found out rather than asking questions first. its called pirate4x4 lol

You skipped a few axles in your list, good ones too. Like the Ford 9", Dana 70, Dana 80, Sterling 10.25 and 10.5, and the 14 bolt. Sure I'm forgetting some as well.
I'm still waiting to hear how they got a 7.2 low range out of the 231.
