Cabin Air Filter?
Does a 1999 Jeep Cherokee have a cabin air filter? And if so, where is it?
Sometimes when I turn on my AC, some black mesh type stuff comes out of the vents. I'm wondering if it's coming from a cabin air filter that needs replaced.

It didn't come with one from the factory. Someone may have have installed one though.
It would be in the cowl area. Remove the plastic vents below the wipers. If your Jeep has it, it will be on the pass. side, and it looks like an air filter. It's white when installed, and should be replaced every 6 months. (At least).
Hope that helps a little.

the black mesh stuff is probably the spongey foam they used to seal the ducts together, its got tape or glue on one side, sticks to one part of hte hvac box, then the ducts either press up against it or have screws holding it

Most likely it's part of the screen attached to the a/c condenser to catch water from the air passing thru it and let it run to the drain. I've seen this many times.
