If the cluster is in fact bad I've got a cluster and PCM on Ebay right now.

Wow! Thanks for all the input.

I have pulled the cluster to visually check its condition and to reseat the connection.

I'll be checking the grounds mentioned as soon as I can get my daughter to stop driving for a day!

I'll follow up with the results, and Thanks Again!

Had the lock problem with my 96, was the wiring harness from drivers door to chassis, wires were cracked inside the rubber boot. I replaced/repaired and they work fine now, just need to lube the mechanisms so the work nice and smooth.

Good Luck

Default Jeep Cherokee speedometer, tachometer, gas gauge and odometer all stopped working

I had this exact problem on my 96 jeep cherokee sport and it's a very simple fix, it is indeed a ground wire, I reconnected it and it fixed everything all at once. It's near the back of the engine, there are 3 ground connections bolted onto the right side of the engine (if your in drivers seat facing normally right side) the smallest one is black with yellow stripe and very short; it broke off at the eye that goes around the bolt to ground it.

It is directly behind the oil dip stick, if you locate the thickest wiring harness in the back of engine compartment, there are 2 smaller harnesses that drop straight down, the grounds stick out of the harness right below the valve cover. good luck.

I have been digging through the service manuals and microfiche and found that allot of the functions performed by a BCM are handled by individual components. Looks like there is no BCM which is good news IMHO.

On your 1999 Cherokee Sport it could be the gauge cluster connector bolted to the inner dash board.Try pushing on the right upper corner of the guage cluster when it screws up. If the gauges come back on it's the connector.Chrysler had a TSB about it and they also have a replacement connector for about $38.00.It's still available I bought one a month ago.

Sorry, I know I'm reviving and old thread...again, but I have a similar issue with my 2001 XJ. All my guages on the cluster died, but my warning lights still work. Also, I have no dome light or door locks.

Is this as simple as a ground as well, or did they decide to put a BCM in the last couple years of the XJ?

Is your odometer working? If not it might be the iod fuse in the power distribution center

Default Oil Pressure

Hello all:

I'm having a similar vein issue:

2000 XJ with 145km on it, works well. Started yesterday morning, no oil pressure and check gauges light on.

Oil level is correct, oil pump is working. (lots of flow to the head)

New Oil sender, and reseated all PCM plugs.

Gauge cluster issues have the ability to throw random gauge problems do they? The TSB was for faulty gauge cluster connections?

Thanks!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you! Someone put a 10 amp fuse in a 15 amp hole. All fixed up.

I had the same problem and tracked down to a loose ground wire on the passenger side of block.
