I bought both driver and pass side. So for have only put in pass side. If you can weld or get a welder its a pretty easy job. It is however a huge PITA to get all your rot out.
Here is a pic of my work so far.
During the process I removed to rear bench and all related fixtures for the seat.

well if your tight on money and were just concerned about the hole get some rust remover and clean the area up and seal with paint to prevent future rust. Then take 5-10 screws and washers and secure the carpet to the body. I did this on my beater no more lost items and holds well. Then if u have the extra money rivet in rocker panels that go to the frame. Your seems really bad so i don't know how much i can help.

My XJ's driver side pan has a huge hole in it, as I found out when I rolled a log and put a branch into leg [but not through the carpet, thankfully!]. I can get a new one for about a hundred bucks, but I'm concerned about how tough the cutting will be. Any advice?
And when you do get the floor pan cut out, do you just have to do a buttweld to stick them together? I'm worried about, you know, falling through the floor while 'wheeling.

I replaced them on my 87 cherokee with sheet metal. Took hours to get them to fit right and alot of bloody hands. For my wife's 96 I spent the $280 and bought the prefab full length drivers and passengers it was a breeze. If time and labor arent a factor but buy a sheet of sheet metal I was also hampered by only having access to a 36" sheet metal brake so I couldn't make them one piece alot of fabricating and welding. hardest part is always removing the old stuff

cut the cancer off all the way into good metal (so you are actually cutting off a bit of good steel). Make it a square shape if possible to add in the creation of the new patch piece. Cut out a piece of cardboard or cardstock paper and adjust to fit the hole. THEN cut out a piece of sheet metal that matches that cardboard cutout. Spot weld it in, check for fit, then weld in small sections skipping around the replacement sheet until you got it welded in. IT will take forever if you do it correctly. Grind if needed for looks but not too much and prime/paint.
If you just want a quick fix then just spot weld it a few places and silicone the rest.
HTH!
