Idk if this is the right section to post this up in but ima post it anyway. Does anyone know what trucks and years came stock with dana 60's? Ima throw some under the cherokee and i get smokin deals at a junk yard so just need to know what trucks came with them. Thanks

you want ford axles, for drivers side drop. look for 1 tonne, so f350.
but dana 60s are huge, and usually with the big brakes.
so that means, you'll need to run at least 16.5 or 17 inch rims.

if you want to go with chev, they are usually passenger side drop, but have nice flat top knuckles.
ford has high pinion, with flat top knuckles, but need to be machined and tapped for high steer arms.

i was gonna go with ford f250 with high pinion 44HD and d60 rear, but with the cast in spring perch, i changed my mind.
i just found a set of 79 bronco axles 44/9" for the same price as the f250 axles, but don't have the cast in spring perches. and i can run 15" wheels.

but if you're stuck on d60's, start by looking under 78-79 ford trucks.

sounds to me like it takes quite a bit of work to make d60's work under xj's. I just plan on goin with an 8 inch lift and 36's so theres no way i can run the d30 and chrysler 8.25. Ill go with any axles that hold up good. d60's were just my first choice but im not a fan of 17 inch rims. maybe ill look for d44 and 9".

Can't you run D30/8.8 with 36" or is that too much for the D30?

yeah, it's a lot of work to fit 60's under an xj.

44/9 is a better option, but still takes some fabbing to make em work.
you want them from a 78-79 bronco/F150 only.

80 and up has the TTB front axle, and 77 down was the small early broncos. the EB had the 44 front, but only came with the small 260 u-joints.

89-93 Dodge Rams with the Cummins had Dana 60 fronts stock but passenger side drop. Brakes are pretty big and require 16" rims. Dodge 3/4 and 1 Ton starting in 94-02 should have drivers side drop dana 60s if they have the Cummins in them, also set up for coil springs.

36s would mean sudden death to a D30 unless you build it up completely...and even then I bet it wouldn't last long offroad. Besides after dropping the cash to build a D30 up that much, you could have bought a custom built D44 from any one of many of the aftermarket suppliers.

problem with dodge is they use that fricken vacuum disconnect chit.

if your are going to go with a ford axle make sure it doesnt have cast on perches theyare nearly impossible to remove without destroying the axle tubes your best bet is to get one with leaf spring perches they are much easier to remove then just weld on your bracketry and your set although its alot harder then i just made it sound

ill prolly do the d44 front and the 9" in the rear.. its easier and they'll hold up runnin 36's. Thanks for the info guys.. now im not so dumb lol
