Default Do I need a rear view mirror?

Mine fell off again. Don't want to put it back up if I don't have to. Some people at work told me that you only need the side two. I need a definitive answer.

I live in PA if that helps.

That's the way it is in WA. Drivers and either the pass side or the one in the middle.

Will be jurisdiction-specific. Mine only requires a single mirror, lol

My renix didnt even come equipped with a right side mirror, I guess it was a luxury the original owner decided pass on lol.

My 97's center mirror fell off a couple years ago, havent gotten around to putting it back on, local law enforcement doesnt seem to care or maybe they just havent noticed.

The center mirror fell off my F150 several years ago and I never put it back up. KY says it is ok without it. If you think about it, what good would it do if you have a utility bed or something like a box truck where you could never use the center one. That would require exceptions to the law for each type of vehicle.

Of course now the Feds are wanting to require backup cameras on every new vehicle, so who knows where the laws will go from here

Found this for you, OP

http://ecomodder.com/wiki/index.php/...9#Pennsylvania

§ 4534. Rearview mirrors. No person shall operate a motor vehicle or combination on a highway unless the vehicle or combination is equipped with at least one mirror, or similar device, which provides the driver an unobstructed view of the highway to the rear of the vehicle or combination. This section shall not apply to any special mobile equipment, commercial implement of husbandry or implement of husbandry that is not so equipped by the original manufacturer. (June 23, 1982, P.L.605, No.171, eff. imd.; Dec. 18, 1992, P.L.1411, No.174, eff. 60 days)

Taken verbatim from PA Vehicle Code Title 75, Chapter 45, § 4534.

"One mirror, or similar device." Taken literally, means you don't need side (external) mirrors at all, as long as you have an internal rearview mirror.

This law does not apply to farm equipment, vehicles which were originally not equipped (and are so maintained in specific condition), and special mobility vehicles, such as pedal bikes and certain scooter-type devices. Interpreted from several other sections in PA statutes.

Highway, in PA Vehicle code, refers to pretty much all public roads.

Yep - such things do exist. Generally, passenger vehicles, trucks, and motorcycles are in different categories. Nevada has a separate stipulation for trucks that have a body that would otherwise block a conventional rear-view mirror.

Not even - only one is required. See my snippet of PA law above.

@Salad Move the mirror over in front of the passenger side. Then you get your mirror and it's not in your way.
