TV Cable Adjusting
SO i just adjusted the TV cable. Followed the instructions in the several write ups that I saw. Jeep seems to "respond" better; however, the shifts themselves are MUCH more firm. 1st to 2nd would actually qualify to use the adjective "sharp." I have only driven maybe 20miles, should I give it a little more time? re-adjust?

You can adjust the cable very slightly in either direction until the shifts are correct. Better to err on the side of firm shifts than sluggish and slow though.
The AW4 isn't nearly as touchy about the adjustment as some other transmissions....set a 700R4 too soft and you'll wreck it within 10 miles. I've never heard of an AW4 dying from a misadjusted throttle cable.

That's good to know Radi. I was worried I'd burn it up; it's already hot enough here.
I have a point of reference from my first adjustment, so it's more or less from that point.

If you try multiple adjustments with the TV cable and still feel there is an issue, know that the "throttle position sensor" is also very much in play with shifting characteristics of the AW4 transmission.
What is the history of routine service: IE: fresh Dex/Merc III fluid?

I've had the Jeep a little over a year; the TPS was replaced immediately (glitched on the 3rd day i had it).
I do not know the previouis owner maint. but the Jeep was in amazing shape. Just needed brakes and larger tires
Fluid smells/looks fine; but i assume that it has not been changed. Had no real issues other than i was overdrive at 40mph and it was a DOG to get it to downshift.
Drove it a good bit yesterday and it seems to be ok; shifts are firmer but it is much more responsive. Lets's hope this helps the gas mileage situation.

Don't completely rule out the TPS even though you replaced it. New(er) parts fail all the time, especially common with certain engine management sensors.

Fluid could also be "worn out" even though it looks okay. Only takes slightly less than 4 quarts and a drain plug washer to do a quick service on it.
