Duralast/autozone lower ball joint problem. Please help!

So the lower ball joints I got came with this threaded sleeve thing (as seen in pic 1) and I didnt know what it was so I didn't put it on and left it like this (pic 2) . I then noticed that there was a fairly large gap between the knuckle and the axle where the lower ball joints are and my camber is was off (pic 4) so I figure that if I put the sleeve thing on like this (pic 3), with the sleeve being between the lower joint and the knuckle, I should be good to go (?).These lower ball joints are the duralast ones from autozone, if anyone has installed them before.

Thats a cheap chinese part. Should of gone with quality parts like moog. Sorry but couldnt get autozone.com for some reason and these are from advance for reference and these look like all the ones Ive done

you sure you got the correct ones? i just did mine with autozone bj a couple weekends ago and they didnt come with that spacer thing and installed easily.

Yeah I checked the numbers and they are correct. I also looked on rock auto and many of their ball joints had the sleeve thing as well. I'm getting confused ha. Might have to switch them out for the advanced moog ones, but really don't want to :/. Thanks for the replies.

Sometimes you get what you pay for. With balljoints if i have to do them then I dont ever want to do it again. Plus never had any fitment issues with moog

Ok so I know i should have gotten the expensive ball joints, but I don't see how these can't at least work. Does anyone know where to put the threaded sleeve?

Also, the upper ball joints are not duralast, if that makes a difference.

Pretty sure the early model xjs had that "sleeve" deal and they had a design change for later years, no effin clue what years had what or if they're interchangeable, my guess is no though lol.

I never saw that sleeve on my 88 or 96. Even swapped my 95 knuckles to the 88 axle with no issue.

88 may be the transition year for those threaded inserts, but it looks like if you don't need the sleeve you just dont use it.

Try Again without the sleeve and report back lol

Yeah mines a 98 and the old one didn't have the sleeve (I don't think) so I just pressed it in, and now my tires look like this. Camber is way off.

Well If you think Moog are made in the USA you are likely mistaken also...

The OE Dana Spicer ball joint kit also has that threaded insert. It comes with it as a service to the customer, so in case you have the very early model that takes it, you can use it, other wise toss it...
