Default anybody had experience with Rod bearings.

Got nothing to loose, so I'm gonna give it a shot. (So don't tell me about how it's not wrth a try, just pull the motor and replace it.)

Engine runs SOOPER. makes pleanty of power ect....

Has a rod rattle on start-up (before the journals are oiled) and can be herd with no load at certain RPM.

I'm under the imression that I can change rod bearings by removing the oil pan (engine in car).

anybody have any experience with this??? 4.0 liter 6cyl '88 4x4 manual

do your self a favor and remove the fan belt and try a cold start

can I replace the mains at the same time??? I would like to! didn't think that would be practical.

Why would the ac or power steering pump only rattle fer the first few seconds.. I am 99% sure it's loose rod bearings.. but that doesn't mean muc.. my mechanic listened to it and IMEDIATLY said Rod bearings..

A possibility that also comes to mind is cam noise, or possibly a lifter... Just a thought before you tear into it

you need a small bolt that will fit snug in the oil journal
and grind the head down to the thickness of the main bearing

and grind a nice flat side on it
you will need help
bolt goes in the journal turn crank slowly it will spin the bearing out
replace new bearing the same way

the thing is if you have a rod knock replacing the bearing probably wont fix it
you will need to resurface the journals

won't fix it huh.. so really no point huh?? complete waste of time..

bearings are made of much softer metal then the crank and the case.. I was banking that the bearings would be take the brunt of it, and replacing just the bearings had a good chance of working.. I imagine they are not tooo far gone, cause it sounds pretty good for the most part.. just rattles on start up before the oil gets there..
