Default sometimes it starts...sometimes it don't

1994 zj 5.2
would not start this morning, but does turn over
came home later and it started right up.
battery , alt and starter all checked out ok last week when this problem started.
I have already changed the crankshaft position sensor. will an ignition coil fail to work on and off?

Will try that in the morning. I don't have a gauge so it will have to go to a shop. Lucky me........

I don't know this for sure, but I've been told you can rent one from Auto Zone.

What should the pressure be? Autozone rents the fuel gauge kit. I assume its fairly easy to do.

so today I go out to show my neighbor what it is doing when trying to start and here is what happened....

engine started but was running rough. when I pressed the accelerator it bogged down the engine so I turned it off. started it again same thing only this time it back fired when I pressed the accelerator. I started it for the third time and it fired up and ran nice and smooth. what a pain!!

I didn't get a chance to test the fuel pressure yet, I have to wait till Thursday to do that. I will update when I get a chance. since it is a 1994 with only 150k miles on her, I plan on replacing the camshaft position sensor(in the dist.), coil pack and fuel pump when my daughter leaves for college, but that is still 3 weeks away.....

thanks to all you offered advice.

so I checked the fuel pressure using the steps described in my Hanes manual. fuel pressure was fine. I went ahead and did a tune-up which included cap, rotor, wires, plugs( champion copper OE), ignition coil and dist. pick-up coil. the jeep cranks right up every time but it still had a hesitation or stumbling of the engine on two occasions at start up and would die. the fuel filter was replaced 3 weeks ago and the fuel that came out of the bleed off from the pressure test was clean. I have also cleaned the throttle body when I changed the fuel filter.
im thinking of going ahead and changing the MAP and IAC sensors..anything else??
