Default 1999 jolly green jeep xj

hey everyone,

my name's fred, I've recently bought a 99 xj classic. This is my 2nd jeep, I owned a 1985 grand wagoneer before. So far this is my favorite vehicle that i've owned (7) and am currently researching mods/build options for some light/moderate weekend wheeling. It will remain a DD though.

. I'm not a mechanic by any means though I'm very handy and have done "light" maintenance on my cars in the past ,butwill more than likely need quite a bit of help and advice from this site.

All in all my xj is in fairly good condition

PROS:
-low-ish mileage
-clean interior
-everything functional
-no worrying noises or knocks

CONS:
-rear quarter door window needs replacing (found at a scrap, paid an arm and a leg)

-liftgate is pretty banged up (previous owner tried to fix but only left rusty welt spots)

-light body rust spots here and there

-rear end sag

-electronics seem to have their own personality

-underside seems to be sprayed with some sort of rubberized coating and i have no way of telling if they did a decent job or not. nor can i tell if it was put there to hide rust. (would anyone know how to remove???)

Build "wish-list"

-4.5 lift
- 32s
-lockers
-possible axle swap
-complete exhaust upgrade
-intake upgrade
-misc performance upgrades
-bumpers
-lights
-speakers
-electronics
-bed-liner lower body
-possible bed-liner underbody (winter protection)

Little about me:

-I'm pitmaster/head-chef of a BBQ joint called "Moonshine BBQ"

-i grew up in south florida, but now live in Canada

-spent better part of life as a guitar/amp salesman and technician and have been a musician most of my life.

-Never been formally trained or experienced as an auto-tech or mechanic, but not completely lost under a hood (i've done light maintenance on my vehicles)

- I want my xj to last me another 15 years, so I don't mind spending a few extra bones on the build to make sure it lasts
