Can someone ID the rear axle under this 86 Comanche for me?

It has junkyard writing on it so its probably not the original, I think its a Chrysler 8.25 because it has the flat bottom, but I didn't think they were available on the MJs. Any ideas?

Did Comanches ever come with the 8.25 or is this a custom job by someone?

Comanches never came with the 8.25 I think the only options were d35 and 44 but I have seen a 86 comanche at the junkyard with a AMC 20 in it.

D35 was the "standard" rear under the MJ.
D44 was found under the "Metric Tonne" MJ
AMC20 was found as "mixed app" with D44 (1986 Metric Tonne - roughly even odds.)
The C8.25 was, I believe, possible under 1991-1992 MJ, but I can't confirm this. However, unless it's swapped for a later version, the C8.25 that you'd find under the MJ would likely be the earlier (25-sp? 27-sp?) version. (I don't recall if they're 25/27-sp, or 27/29sp offhand.)

The D30 was the standard front, although some export-market MJs could have gotten the D44 (as could some earlier export-market XJ.)

early 8.25 in the XJ's are 27 spline. 97+ they went to 29 spline.
