I’ve got a question hopefully you can help I’ve got a 1990 jeep Cherokee I know everything about the 91 Cherokees and up this is my first 90 I have a 1996 jeep Cherokee high output motor in there and there was a little bit of work that has been done to it. I have 12 hole injectors installed and aluminum billet fuel rail off Amazon, the throttlebody from the 96 the exhaust manifold from a 96. Well, it’s actually a Shorty header from jags the intake manifold from the 96 a cold air intake and I took the fuel pump out of the 96 and wired it up as the fuel regulator was in the fuel pump for the 96 it runs terrible and backfires quite a bit and I’m only getting like 11 miles to the gallon. It is eating my gas , do you have any pointers on how I can fix this? Also, I read on one of the posts you made that the fly wheel needs to be installed from the 1990 jeep Cherokee. I have the 96 flywheel installed. Do you think that the crank position sensor is not getting an accurate reading?

    Hi Cruiser54,
Could you verify one of your 'tips' for me. Just asking due to the fact that I have a 96XJ and your tips are 'mostly' renix.
Specifically I am referring to this page: http://cruiser54.com/?p=68
Probably a newbie question but, yesterday following as many directions as possible I put my distributor back in and kept coming up
w/ the rotator more at the 5:30 position. I was thinking it should be right at 5:00 under the first post (#1). After reading your article,
It seems it's ok if this statement is true: "just departing from the #1 spark plug wire post terminal" - which would make it more 5:30ish.
I'm just looking for some verification that this particular tip is not just Renix and that I got it right.

    Many thanks,
    Andy.Raleigh

Cruiser54, Somewhere on your Technical site I stumbled on a link that let me run my vin and it gave me a complete breakdown on everything my 90XJ came from the factory with. gear ratios etc. for the life of me, I cannot relocate that link. any way you could guide me to it?
I now have 3 XJ's and an MJ and would like to document them before I start the modification journey.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you can offer

    Hi there,

I was advised to contact a moderator to have my username changed. I used my email address as my username when I signed up. How do I go about changing it?

    Thanks,

Hello, done most of your renix related mods, still having a bit of issue, from 1.2k rpm to about 3k rpm, engine backfires, exhaust and intake, done sone diagnostics and found out that the ecm actualy cuts every other spark going to ignition coil unit, checked cps, signal constant no cutting etc, disconeccted almost all sensors, still same, its lpg converted so no petrol needed (runs same on petrol) all started to happen after gearbox seal replacment and o rings on the injectors, swaped ecm with my other renix, still runs rought, any idea please? was looking quite few post, but seems no solution found. thanks alot

Hello, I found your response in a thread about driving without front driveshaft. I wasnted to be sure if it IS NECESSARY to put the NP242 in part time 4wd in order to safely drive without front shaft. My '99 (well my son's now) has an issue that I have been planning on changing front Ujoints to see if it helps. We have had it since 2012 and have not had to do Ujoints. I don't know if they are originla, but i believe they are. The issue he has is; there is sligth wheel hop in front when making tight turns. The axle joints have been replaced a few years ago (maybe 10 or 12k miles), as well as the ball jints, hubs abd all steering components at the same time. The wheel hop doesn't feel as though it is in 4WD on dry pavement, but similar, just now as much hop. Any suggestions what to look for? thanks

It's when, not where. LOL. I haven't done them yet. That's why they're not links.

I was trying to set my TPS due to a high idle. I checked the "A" plug with ground on "B" and got a reading of 4.7 I probed the "C" plug and get no reading what so ever. Is my TPS bad? Meter seems to be working... Or am I perhaps doing something wrong? Thanks for your time...

I found nothing wrong with the vacuum line, I do have the parts for the fix, I was waiting to get it running before installing. I tried moving the dist. 1 tooth each way, advanced it stayed running but missing and backfiring out the exhaust. Retired it ran like crap. I may try to go 2 teeth advanced to see if anything changes.
